Kroon Biokinetics utilises Pilates techniques in our rehabilitation of patients and clients. Once patients have become strong enough to advance, we refer them on to our “in house” Pilates lounge.
Pilates is a body conditioning routine that help build flexibility, muscle strength and endurance in the legs, abdominals, arms, hips, and back. Pilates was developed in the early 20th century by Joseph Pilates. Joseph Pilates was a sickly child, plagued with, rickets, asthma and rheumatic fever. His drive to overcome these ailments led to the development of Pilates. Josephs guiding philosophy in creating the movements was that the “whole” must be exercised to achieve a good health.
Goal of Pilates
Pilates assists those patients who are looking to become pain free and stronger by teaching them to use their core muscles. The core serves as a primary focus in Pilates. Balanced development of the muscle groups of the pelvic complex is fundamental in striving for ideal posture and function. Pilates therefore puts emphasis on spinal and pelvic alignment, breathing and developing a strong core or center and improving coordination and balance. The technique is taught step-by-step to a small group of 4-5 individuals as a whole and is suitable for everyone at any fitness level.
